Library 2.0
What is it?
- it's about creating a dialog with our patrons
- it's about encouraging participation and accepting feedback
- it's about the constant evolution of library services
UCSC Library Library 2.0 Project
Over the course of approximately 10 weeks, interested library staff members investigated many of the tools of Library 2.0, and documented their experiences on individual blogs. Each tool was analyzed in terms of its potential use in our library setting.
A few of the 23 Things
Library 2.0 has allowed us to connect with our patrons in new ways-- in ways that serve their needs and allow them to be proactively involved with the resources we offer.
Some of the tools presented in the Library 2.0 Project can be used to provide existing services in new ways. Some can be used to provide completely new and innovative services.

Library 2.0 can be scary
The philosophy behind Library 2.0 is about creating a dialog and getting feedback from our users. This can be scary. If we open ourselves up to feedback in a significant way, we may find out that:
- We are not meeting the needs of our users.
- We have to change the way we do things.
- We have to change how we see our role as librarians.
- While we may be experts in some areas, our work is changing.
